Brussels, 2 June 2026
CESAER welcomes the European Parliament CULT Committee draft report on Erasmus+ 2028–2034 as a constructive step, notably for its proposals on minimum budget allocations and stronger synergies with other Union programmes and funding sources. However, the proposed reduction in the budget share for education and training risks limiting mobility, cooperation and opportunities across the programme at precisely the moment Europe needs stronger investment in advanced skills, international experience and talent.
CESAER therefore supports the sector’s call to maintain education and training at the core of Erasmus+ by readjusting its budget share to the level of the current programme.
Touko Närhi, CESAER Advisor for Benchmark & Higher Education said:
“The draft CULT report includes much that deserves recognition. However, reducing the budget share for education and training is difficult to justify at a time when Europe urgently needs more graduates with advanced skills, international experience and the capacity to contribute to Europe’s competitiveness and resilience.”
