CESAER is delighted to announce that our President, Sir Jim McDonald, has been nominated as the presidential candidate of the Royal Academy of Engineering.
Sir McDonald, the Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Strathclyde, has been nominated by the Academy’s Trustee Board for election at its Annual General Meeting in September and is set to serve a term of five years.
We extend our warm congratulations to Sir Jim and wish him much success in this position. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with the Royal Academy of Engineering and to further deepening our relationship with United Kingdom institutions of science and technology in the coming years.
Sir Jim started his two year term as our President in January 2018 following his election by the General Assembly in October 2017. Under his leadership, we has embarked upon an ambitious two-year work plan aimed at the acceleration of the assoctiation’s development, engagement with external bodies and collaboration between Members. Sir Jim has underlined his full commitment to CESAER and our ongoing activities.
The Royal Academy of Engineering is the United Kingdom’s national academy for engineering and technology, bringing together the most talented and successful engineers to advance and promote excellence in engineering for the benefit of society.
Sir Jim said: “It is a great honour to have been President of CESAER and Strathclyde is proud of our continuing membership of Europe’s leading association of universities of science and technology. In my forthcoming role as President of the Royal Academy of Engineering, I look forward to future collaboration both with CESAER and with the other sister national academies in Europe.”
