Leuven, 10 June 2026
CESAER today publishes, together with the Coimbra Group, The Guild, LERU and YERUN, a report from the event ‘R&I in the next EU budget: Investing in Europe’s prosperity and competitiveness.’
The event was co-organised in collaboration with AURORA, ECIU, EUA, EURASHE, EuroTech, UAS4Europe and UNICA, and contributed to the Research Matters campaign.
Held under the auspices of Member of the European Parliament Carla Tavares, co-rapporteur on the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) for 2028–2034, the event brought together 50 participants in person and around 180 online.
Louise Drogoul, Senior Advisor at CESAER said:
“Europe does not lack strategies, priorities or ambitions for competitiveness. What it risks lacking is the sustained investment in excellent research, talent and cross-border collaboration needed to deliver them. Universities of science and technology turn scientific excellence into skills, technologies, companies and industrial partnerships, but this capacity cannot be switched-on only when a crisis or strategic dependency emerges. A strong, standalone FP10 is the infrastructure of Europe’s future competitiveness, and its budget must reflect that reality.”
The event demonstrated strong alignment around a key message: that FP10 needs a high and ambitious budget to create a collaborative R&I framework that will help Europe strengthen its competitiveness and prosperity
CESAER stands ready to work with the Council, Parliament and Commission to strengthen the proposals and help ensure that FP10 achieves its intended purpose for Europe.
