The national awards recognise outstanding contributions to higher education within the universities sector in the United Kingdom. This year, the THE Awards were spread across 23 categories and hundreds of entries were received from nearly 80 institutions.

The THE University of the Year award honours Strathclyde’s return to its founding vision as the 'place of useful learning' and praises it as an exemplar of an institution that has taken on a vital social mission and excelled in delivering on that goal.

The judges also stressed our Member's success in creating a series of collaborative research centres that share expertise and equipment with industry and developing Scotland’s first innovation district.

It is the second time Strathclyde has been named THE University of the Year, having also won the title in 2012.

Strathclyde also won the Widening Participation or Outreach Initiative of the Year category for its Breaking Barriers programme, which offers young people with learning disabilities access to education and work experience to improve their chances of securing employment.

We extend our warm congratulations to the team of the University of Strathclyde on this outstanding achievement.
