Our association has joined forces with 15 other representative organisations of European research & innovation stakeholders to publish an open letter urging the EU institutions to include stakeholders in the co-creation and implementation of the governance of the European Research Area.
An independent Evaluation Panel has selected five student-led teams as finalists of our Competition Best Idea 2021. The competition invited students and PhD candidates from our Members to submit their brilliant ideas for how science and technology can help revolutionise our society’s efforts towards sustainability.
On 1 and 2 July, the Royal Academy of Engineering and our association hosted a joint online conference bringing together leaders, policy-makers and researchers from the UK, EU and beyond. The conference explored trends in key technologies for the next 30 years, and their implications for engineers and universities of science and technology today.
On 10 June our President Rik Van de Walle (Rector of Ghent University) delivered a speech on the invitation of the seventh European Women Rectors Conference co-organised by ETH Zurich and the European Women Rectors Association (EWORA). The overall conference theme was 'Leadership in Higher Education and Research in Times of Dynamic Global Change', and the plenary session in which Rik participated looked at this topic from the perspective of global climate change.
Our association has co-signed an open letter urging for the full association of Switzerland with Horizon Europe in order to ensure the continuity of the longstanding and successful collaboration in research and innovation with organisations from the European Union.
Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) will host a conference in Tomsk (Russian Federation) in May 2022 providing (i) a global stage to its (international) networks, and (ii) an opportunity to reach out and engage with universities of S&T from China, Europe and Russia.
