The appointment follows on the strong commitment and many efforts concerning the European cooperation in science and technology from Ernst Schmachtenberg during his leadership of RWTH Aachen University. The appointment reconfirms that CESAER gives the highest priority to this topic as recently outlined in our position on the future of the ERA and underlined by our President-elect Rik Van de Walle.
As envoy on the future of the ERA, Ernst Schmachtenberg will support and advise our President and Board towards the German Presidency of the Council of the EU in the second half of 2020.
