We are delighted to announce that our Board has appointed Vojtěch Petráček as our association’s Envoy towards the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU from July to December 2022.

Vojtěch will support and advise our President and Board on topics of key interest to our association, including the European Research Area, European Education Area, European Strategy for Universities and the EU’s global approach.

The appointment demonstrates our continued commitment to shaping these developments on the European level, following up on our positions ‘Guiding principles for Global Framework to S&T Cooperation’ and ‘Advancing the flagship initiatives of the European Strategy for Universities’.

In the course of his career, Vojtěch Petráček has been attached to a number of leading institutions, in the Czech Republic and abroad. In 2004, he joined the Faculty of Nuclear Science and Physical Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague, where he completed his habilitation in 2007. His main field of scientific interest is in the physics of ultra-relativistic nuclear collisions and particle physics. In collaboration with his students and colleagues, he attempts to interlink experimental and theoretical aspects of this field of physics within the framework of research carried out at the Faculty of Nuclear Science and Physical Engineering. Since 2018 he is the Rector of the Czech Technical University in Prague.

His mandate follows up on the work of our association’s previous Envoys Christian Lerminiaux (President of ParisTech), Arlindo Oliveira (former President of Instituto Superior Técnico) and Ernst Schmachtenberg (former rector RWTH Aachen University).
